Flight Guide: Wings, Aerial Combat & Gliding
How flight works in AION 2: the wing quest, aerial combat as a core mechanic, where flying is restricted, and why altitude is a real tactical resource.
Quick Answer: How Do You Fly in AION 2?
Complete the early lake quest in your faction's starting zone β "The Power in the Lake" (Elyos) or "The Being Beneath the Lake" (Asmodian) β and the game equips your first wings. From that moment flight is a combat mechanic, not a travel shortcut: the world is designed around verticality, and gaining altitude is how you gain advantage.
Flight Is the Class Identity of the Game
AION 2's pitch β "the sky is the battlefield" β is mechanical, not marketing: encounters use aerial phases, ranged uptime is worth real damage when enemies close distance, and repositioning in three dimensions is the skill the game grades hardest. The sequel's world is 36 times larger than the original AION's, and much of it is only efficiently reached through the air.
Rules, Limits and Wings as Gear
Flight is not unconditional: some zones restrict it, gliding has stamina rules of its own, and underwater movement is its own mode. Wings are also an equipment line β collectible wings add stats, which keeps the system relevant after the quest that introduces it. Treat the first wings as a tutorial: the collection and stat side deepens at the level-45 wall.
Flying for Each Role
Rangers exploit altitude more naturally than any class β kiting is kiting in 3D. Sorcerers and Spiritmasters buy survival with distance and height. Templars and Gladiators discover that some aerial encounters simply do not engage until the frontline shows up at altitude. Clerics and Chanters learn range-extension discipline early or learn it the expensive way. The lesson generalizes: in AION 2, the floor is a suggestion.
