Flight is quest-gated, not level-gated: complete the early lake quest — "The Power in the Lake" for Elyos or "The Being Beneath the Lake" for Asmodians — and the game equips your first wings.
How the gate works
A free main-story step in the starting zone. Follow the main quest line and it arrives within your first hours; there is no purchase and no level requirement.

What Wings Change
Wings turn flight from a travel mechanic into a combat axis: gain altitude for advantage, reposition mid-fight, and reach gathering nodes and vistas that are unreachable on foot. Several encounters in the game use aerial mechanics outright — several more simply become easier with altitude.
Underwater and Glide Rules
Flight is not unconditional: some zones restrict it, and gliding has its own stamina rules. Read the flight guide for the aerial-combat specifics — wing choice later also adds stats, so the system stays relevant all the way to the level-45 wall.

How to Get There Fast
Do not detour: the lake quest sits on the main story path of your faction's starting zone (Poeta for Elyos, Ishalgen for Asmodians). Rushing past the main quest to grind mobs delays your wings for zero gain — the quest line is the fastest route to every early system unlock.
